Hitit University

Çorum's state university: from its founding to its campuses, faculties and student profile — the essentials of the city's centre of higher education.

Hitit University is a state university in Çorum. It takes its name from the Hittite civilisation whose capital the province once hosted, and is one of Çorum's most important institutions.

📜 Founding

The university was founded in 2006. Its core units (Theology, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Engineering and others) had previously belonged to Gazi University; in 2006 they were separated and brought together under Hitit University. The Faculty of Theology is regarded as one of its oldest units.

🏫 Faculties

The university has 11 faculties:

There is also a Graduate Institute (master's and doctoral programmes) and a School of Foreign Languages. The presence of Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary faculties gives the university a relatively broad profile.

📍 Campuses

👥 Students and impact on the city

In recent years the university has had around 19,000 students, with a growing number of international students. This young population is an important social and economic boost for Çorum, while the district vocational schools extend higher education beyond the centre.
