Çatak Nature Park Visitor Guide

A nature escape among black-pine forests close to central Çorum: the recreation area, a nature-walk route and transport on one page.

Çatak Nature Park is a forest recreation area only about 22 km from central Çorum, declared a nature park in 1984. It is a cool nature break easily added to a city visit.

📍 Location and transport

The park lies on the edge of the Çatak and Çalyayla villages in the central district. From Çorum you take the road towards Laçin–Osmancık and turn off onto the park road; the road is fully paved. As there is no public transport, a car is needed. For ways to reach the city, see how to get to Çorum.

🌲 The park and what to do

  • Forest: the dominant tree is black pine; wildlife such as foxes, hares and partridges can be seen.
  • Recreation area: for day use there are children's play areas, a gazebo, picnic facilities, a kiosk, a fountain and parking.
  • Nature walk: a roughly 12 km, two-stage route (Çalyayla junction → Alagöz Plateau → recreation area).
  • Other: cycling, photography, plant and bird watching.

❄️ Snow and skiing

Çatak was used in the past as Çorum's ski area, but for years insufficient snow has meant it is not run as an active, lift-equipped ski resort. It is an area for amateur skiing and sledding only when snow falls; snow cover varies year to year.

🎒 Practical tips

  • Time: half a day for the recreation area; a full day with the trekking route.
  • Season: spring, summer and early autumn are ideal for picnics and walking; it is cooler than the city.
  • Come prepared: the kiosk is limited, so bring food and water, and take your litter with you.
