Alpagut (Dodurga)
Alpagut is a village in Dodurga district. As noted in the History of Dodurga article, Alpagut is counted among the district’s villages and lies about 7 kilometres from the district centre and about 52 kilometres from central Çorum. The village sits at an altitude of 785 metres.
History
According to Wikipedia’s entry, sourced from YerelNet.org.tr, the village has carried the name Alpagut since 1925. At that time it was a village belonging not to Dodurga but to Osmancık; it gained municipal (belde) status on 29 November 1989. After its population fell below 2,000, its municipal status ended in 2013 and Alpagut reverted to village status — part of a nationwide process, under Law No. 6360, of converting small municipalities back into villages.
Population
Records based on YerelNet.org.tr data show a marked decline in Alpagut’s population over the past three decades: from 2,084 in 1985 and 1,808 in 1990 to 1,669 in 2000, then down to 785 in 2010 and 454 in 2021. During its years as a municipality (1994-2013), Alpagut’s mayors included Arif Ayar (1994, ANAP), Mustafa Çiftçi (1999, ANAP; 2009, DP) and Mustafa Güçlü (2004, AK Parti). Since municipal status ended, the village has been administered by a headman (muhtar) and council of elders.
