Çatak Nature Park and Çatak Ski Facility

Çatak Nature Park is a natural recreation area located about 22 kilometres from the centre of Çorum and protected by the Forestry Administration. Thanks to its surrounding woodland cover, its cool air and its proximity to the city centre, the area is among the spots frequently chosen by local visitors for both weekend outings and day trips.

Location and Natural Setting

The park sits on the high, forested terrain in the northern part of Çorum. Located in the transition zone between Central Anatolia and the Central Black Sea region, this area is under the influence of a continental climate, yet its elevation gives it a relatively cool atmosphere during the summer months. The cover formed by pine and other forest trees adds value to the area in terms of both scenery and shade. With these features, Çatak fulfils a recreational role similar to that of other nature and highland areas in the surrounding region.

Nature Park and Recreation Area

The basic infrastructure of the recreation area has been completed, which indicates that the area has been arranged in a way suitable for activities such as picnicking, resting and nature walks. Its proximity to the city centre is the main reason for the park’s popularity among the public. Çatak Ski Facility

Located near the nature park, the Çatak Ski Facility lies about 27 kilometres from the city centre and was opened in 1991. The facility was established to make use of the snow cover that forms in the higher parts of the region during the winter months, and it is one of the main areas around Çorum that make winter sports possible. Being situated in the same mountainous belt as the nature park allows the region to be enjoyed throughout all four seasons: for nature tourism in summer and for skiing and winter sports in winter.

Both the nature park and the ski facility are well suited to day trips, as they are a short drive from the centre of Çorum. The region as a whole stands out for visitors seeking a cool, wooded resting area in summer and the chance to ski in winter.
