Places to Visit in Çorum & Suggested Routes
From the Hittite capital Hattusa to İncesu Canyon, from İskilip's timber houses to Osmancık's bridge — with time estimates and ready-made itineraries.
Çorum can be explored for both its archaeology and its nature. Below are itineraries by interest, with approximate times for each stop. All distances are approximate from the city center; see the relevant pages and the map for details.
🏛️ Hittite Route (full day)
A magnificent archaeological day around the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hattusa:
- Hattusa (Boğazkale, ~80 km) — walls, the Lion Gate, the King's Gate, the Yerkapı tunnel. Time: 2–3 hours.
- Yazılıkaya open-air sanctuary — rock reliefs, very close to Hattusa. 30–45 min.
- Boğazköy Museum — excavation finds. 45 min–1 hour.
- Alacahöyük (~45 km) and the Alacahöyük Museum — Hattian royal tombs. 1–1.5 hours.

🏙️ Çorum City Center (half–full day)
- Çorum Museum — a rich, Hittite-focused collection. 1–1.5 hours.
- Çorum Castle and the Clock Tower. 45 min.
- Çorum Grand Mosque and the historic Çorum Houses. 45 min–1 hour.
- Don't leave without buying Çorum leblebi (roasted chickpeas).
🌲 Nature Route (full day)
- İncesu Canyon (Ortaköy, ~55 km) — hiking and scenery. 2–3 hours.
- Çatak Nature Park — picnic and nature. 2 hours.
- In summer, the highlands: Abdullah, Kargı, İskilip and Laçin recreation area.
🪵 İskilip & the North (1–2 days)
- İskilip (~55 km) — Ottoman timber houses, historic bazaar, İskilip Castle and the rock tomb. Half a day.
- Osmancık (~60 km) — the Koyunbaba Bridge and Kandiber Castle. 2–3 hours.
- Kapılıkaya Monumental Rock Tomb — a striking Roman-era tomb. 1 hour.
Practical tips
- Duration: 2–3 days is ideal to see Çorum fully; for a single day, pick the Hittite Route or City + Nature.
- Season: spring and autumn for archaeological sites; summer for the highlands and the canyon.
- Food: try Çorum cuisine (leblebi, İskilip dolması, keşkek) along the way.
