İskilip Strawberries
İskilip Strawberries are an agricultural product known for cultivation specific to the district’s soil and climate conditions, registered as a geographical indication. They are one of the local specialties İskilip has branded in recent years.
Geographical indication registration
Registration efforts for İskilip Strawberries began in 2021; İskilip Municipality’s application was approved by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, and the product was registered as a mark of origin on 06.10.2023, registration no. 1481, protected retroactively from 29.12.2021. Cultivation
Strawberries grown in gardens around İskilip take on a distinctive flavour and aroma shaped by the district’s elevation and climate. As part of the district’s branding efforts, producers have expanded strawberry cultivation further in recent years.
The Çorum interpretation
İskilip Strawberries have become a prominent agricultural product in the district in recent years, used both fresh and in jam- and dessert-making. The registration process was carried out by İskilip Municipality as part of its policy of branding the district’s local specialties.
Cultural significance
The registration of İskilip Strawberries formally protects the district’s agricultural diversity. As one of İskilip’s eight geographically indicated products, it represents the district’s farming identity alongside dishes like dolma and pickles.
