Karaçuval Helvası

Karaçuval Helvası is a traditional dessert listed among Çorum’s “famous desserts” by the Çorum Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, and described in official promotion as characteristic of the city.
How it’s made
According to the official source, flour is lightly fried in oil; grape molasses is then added to bring it to a halva-like consistency, which is pressed into small pieces.
Considered characteristic of Çorum
At a promotional programme held at Velipaşa Hanı as part of the 2026 Turkish Cuisine Week, organised by the Çorum Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, Karaçuval Helvası was explicitly described as “characteristic of Çorum” among the local flavours presented. Anadolu Ajansı’s 2008 “Flavour Map” survey also lists “kara çuval helvası” among Çorum’s well-known local desserts.
