Tepecik Old Police Station Building (Abbasoğlu Konağı)
Standing in the Tepecik neighborhood close to Veli Paşa Konağı, this historic building appears in official records as Abbasoğlu Konağı; locally, however, it is known as the Old Police Station Building because it served that function until recent decades. Reflecting Çorum’s typical civil architecture, the building is one of the few late-19th-century residences of the city to survive to the present.
History
News reports from July 2018 described the building as roughly 130 years old at that time, dating its construction to the last quarter of the 19th century, around 1890. Following restoration work launched under Çorum Mayor Zeki Gül, the municipality announced that the building has a total enclosed area of 300 square meters and that a wooden information office would also be built alongside it.
Restoration and Present Use
Çorum Municipality, describing the building as one of the finest examples of civil architecture in the city, restored it to its original form in 2018 and converted it into a Family Education Center. After a long history as a private residence and later as a police station, the building now serves as an education and social-services venue aimed at families and children.
